  About our classes
Having Fun!

At the Dubbo City Performing Arts Studio, we offer dance training in a range of styles - quality tuition that's widely regarded as some of the finest and most comprehensive in the region.

We firmly believe that dance can play a role in the development of healthy, balanced and positive young adults. We strive to enrich the lives of our students through caring, creative and professional teaching methods and a range of carefully selected performance opportunities. These include corporate and community events, regional eisteddfods and our much anticipated annual production.

Children's Classes

Please take a look at the following information in relation to each of our classes - and contact us if you would like assistance in selecting the classes which best suit your child.

  Classical Ballet

Classical Ballet, more than any other dance style, gives children the opportunity to escape to a magical world. It has no barriers and can be enjoyed by anyone. Classical Ballet encourages freedom of expression, which we see as being a vital key to a child's development.

Ballet nurtures a child's social interaction skills and offers an early sense of self-discipline and self-confidence - qualities which our children need to get through life successfully.

At the Dubbo City Performing Arts Studio, we are committed to the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), which has become the world's largest training body. The RAD syllabus contains exercises in Ballet, Free Movement and National Character. We presently teach from Pre-Primary level through to the Advanced Foundation Major Grade.

Classical Ballet is a great way to improve posture and physical strength; helping to develop fine motor skills and a sense of rhythm. Above all, we aim to make it expressive and fun for all of our students.

Jazz

Jazz/Hip-Hop is terrific for all ages (from 2 years in fact!). Even at this early age, students can begin to develop an appreciation for music and a clear sense of rhythm.

Not only is Jazz/Hip-Hop a great way for children to interact with other budding young dancers, it also develops confidence, expression and communication.

Our senior Jazz/Hip-Hop classes encompass a wide range of movement vocabulary. We work on fitness, flexibility, muscle tone, co-ordination and, above all, technique! Through technique, we believe, comes the versatility to perform many different styles of Jazz/Hip-Hop - from Cabaret to Street Funk.

We offer two streams – Jazz for Ballet Students "Ballerina Jazz" and Recreational Hip-Hop/Jazz. Ballerina Jazz Classes start from approximately 10 years of age, and Hip-Hop/Jazz from 2 years of age. This division keeps the class numbers to a good size, and also caters for the increased technical aspect needed for those who also take Ballet lessons. Ballerina Jazz is only available at the Dubbo Studio.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is especially creative, broad-based, abstract and expressive - this is a difficult style to define!

At the Dubbo City Performing Arts Studio we incorporate a large amount of Yoga into contemporary class content. In Yoga, we find a means to develop technique & strength, (developing "body awareness"), and learn about their peripheries and the way their limbs work as part of a whole.

We offer Contemporary dance to students from 10 years of age.

Pre-School/ Tiny-Tots

We have created a delightful program for 2 - 5 year olds - a program which explores and develops fine motor skills and musicality. In these classes, students begin to learn the 'magic of dance' through mime, visualization, movement, and music appreciation.

These classes also offer social interaction, communication and an increased sense of pattern & direction.

We call these classes 'Pre-School Ballet' (from 2 years); 'Pre-School Jazz' (from 2 years) and 'Pre-School Ballet/Jazz (from 2 years.)

Tap, Street Tap

Tap dancing develops a finely-tuned sense of rhythm and musicality, and improves muscle control and strength in the legs, ankles, and feet.

We offer Tap to students from 4 years of age. We cater for those who simply just want to improve fitness & have fun, and also for those students who wish to take their dance more seriously.

Performance Class

Performance class is an additional class devoted to the making and rehearsing of team-based performance routines for local eisteddfods and public displays. We travel to approximately three different eisteddfods in the region, and perform at a variety of galas and concerts throughout the year.

Our number one goal for Performance students is to have fun & enjoy the experience of performing on stage in front of an audience - we truly regard any awards received as a bonus. It is our belief that attributes such as self-confidence and team work (not to mention the friendships and wonderful experiences) are what Performance is all about!

If your child would like to become a Performance member, please express your interest on your enrolment form. Our criteria for selecting these performers include their level of commitment and overall enthusiasm, and we do prefer these students to have at least 12 months of tuition experience behind them. Private lessons are available for those dancers interested in solo/ duo routines.
